Summary

Oman was the fourth country in the GCC region to implement VAT in the region on 16th April 2021, VAT in Oman introduced as per the GCC common VAT agreement framework.


VAT registration threshold limit

- Mandatory registration: Annual Taxable supplies exceeds OMR 38,500

- Voluntary registration: Annual Taxable supplies/expenses exceeds OMR 19,250


VAT rates

- Zero rated

  •   Exports of goods/services
  •   International transportation service
  •   Basic food items
  •   Supply of qualified means of transport
  •   Crude oil, oil derivatives & natural gas
  •   Supply of precious metals (investment grade)

- Exempt

  • Financial Service
  • Supply of Bare land
  • Supply & lease of residential real estate
  • Education service
  • Healthcare service
  • Local passenger service

- Standard rated - VAT 5% (any supply which are not zero rate or exempt)


VAT in Oman is administered by the Oman Tax Authority (OTA).
